Amelie and David were married in Catta Verdera Country Club in Auburn, California, in June earlier this year. When Bill and Helen, Amelie’s parents, first mentioned the possibility of me photographing their daughters wedding in California I was beyond excited, but when I found out that she was getting married just a half hour drive away from where one of my best friends lives I couldn’t believe it. Of all the places in the world. It felt like fate.
The evening before the wedding Amelie and David put on a dinner for all of their close family and friends so that they could get to know each other before the wedding as they had guests from all over the world. The evening started out warm and sunny like every evening in California, but as twilight rolled in so did the clouds and the air felt heavy. The meal was outdoors, and as California was in a four year severe drought, no one really expected rain, but after some spectacular thunder and lightning the sky opened and within only a few minutes everything was saturated and people ran for shelter as glasses on tables filled with rainwater and puddles turned into rivers. I watched as the children ran and danced in the rain, and part of me wanted to be out there dancing with them, but I kept my camera safe and dry and documented it all.
Thankfully the rain held off for the outdoor ceremony the next day. My friend Kara helped me out by second shooting and we were made to feel part of the day rather than just the photographers which was lovely. Amelie and David’s ceremony was one of the most beautiful and heartwarming I have witnessed, it was not only a celebration of their love for one another but it also reflected on how they could share their love as part of something bigger, to help people and make a positive difference in the world.
After Amelie and David’s wedding I spent some time with Kara and we road-tripped down the West Coast visiting Big Sur, Monterey and San Francisco. You can see the pictures from our trip on my personal page here.
